This morning's eclipse of the moon
The alarm went off, and i picked up the camera, walked to the window, turned off the flash, opened the window, zoomed in all the way, snapped several shots. Hand held, but braced against the window frame. Despite the brace, some of the shots have considerable camera shake. These three shots are just the best of each batch.
This camera isn't designed for astrophotography. It doesn't have adjustable shutter times. Four batches of shots were taken. You can see the times for the first three batches. The forth batch was taken during total lunar eclipse. But the camera didn't see anything but camera noise. They're pretty good dark frames. So just the three partial lunar eclipses.
Normally, when publishing to the web, the images get scaled down so that they fit in the forum. In this case, the shots were cropped so that just the moon was visible, and then the three shots were pasted together, and labeled with their times.
I was hoping that by getting back to sleep withing five minutes, it would count as a whole night. But four five minute interruptions was pushing it. There was, however, no action whatsoever when the alarms rang to go to work.
Missed it? Next eclipse is February 20, 2008 at 11:31 pm EST. Oh. Maybe that's off by an hour, due to daylight savings time. So, it's probably February 21s, 2008 at 12:31 am EST. Well, that's the middle of the eclipse. You'd probably want to start earlier anyway.
